Young Woman Commission

Young Woman was drawn with Sharpie Markers, Sakura Pigma Sensei pens, Copic Pens and Copic Markers on Strathmore 300 Series Bristol Board. Drawn in 2014.

This was done as a commission. The drawing was done a little differently than normal I took an old graphic design technique where I blew up a photo and then put it on a light box. Once on the light box I quickly traced over the shapes of the face and basic shape of the body to ensure it would resemble the person it is supposed to be. I then threw out the photo drew in the hair and shirt and arms and little detail lines.

This drawing was rejected by the person who commissioned it and I have to do a new one but since a lot of people liked it I thought that I should post it here anyway since I think it looks good.

2nd & Charles Event Self Promotion Poster

A self promotion poster I designed for an event at 2nd & Charles in Covington, Louisiana. The event will include other artist and writers Tim Lattie, Vernon Smith, Lewis Aleman, and Tim Fletcher.

Drawing was done on Strathmore 300 Series Smooth Bristol Board and then colored in Adobe Photoshop, Text and red target graphics were created in Adobe InDesign.

Come out and see me on Saturday July 26, 2014 from 12 PM - 4 PM at 2nd & Charles 401 Highway 190, Covington, LA. I'll have prints and some art and hopefully something new.

One Murder Too Many: Whitey Bulger and the Computer Tycoon is a book cover that I designed at Pelican Publishing Company in 2013. This book is the first cover that I designed after I officially became the Art Director at Pelican Publishing Company and a year later I still like it (my photo's are not too good though). I think the photo with the red and my tweeks in photoshop show this guy as a really bad person and this cover looks exactly like I wanted it to look from the start. I didn't have to do much to get this one approved the way I wanted it.

Posters from Local Comic Book Shows

These are a few posters that I did for events that I have attended in the last few years. The BayouCon poster was used as the official cover for all of their materials. The FREE COMIC BOOK DAY poster features a weird green monster and the superhero Dot To Dot from my Strange City Heroes comic books. I thought it was kind of fun to put him in there because not many people know who he is and he's not a major character making him like an inside secret for me and anyone who read my comics.

Let's Walk The French Quarter A Visual Tour By Kerri McCaffety is a book cover that I designed at Pelican Publishing Company in 2014. This book cover design is one of my favorites that I have designed at Pelican Publishing Company and it barely had any changed from my original concept. What I like about it most is that it is a fairly simple idea with a touch of some extra graphic design that makes it fun, gives it meaning of what the book is about and pulls it all together as a nice looking book. The little walking stick figure leaving a trail of dots behind him (some of them blue signifying stops on his walk) is what I think really makes this cover fun and youthful. I also like the color of the green that pops out at you from across the room. I don't always get to get the designs that I want approved but I feel like this was a good win for me. I'm not sure if it's wrong to think this but it might be a little better if Pac-Man was chasing the little stick figure guy around the cover . . . wakka, wakka, wakka, wakka, wakka, wakka, wakka, wakka, wakka, wakka, wakka, wakka.

The Black Tree Album Cover

The Black Tree - so much so that the silence has become deafening is a fictional band/album that I created as practice for album cover art back in 2012.I mentioned this yesterday on the RED SUN post and decided that I should just go ahead and post it. That tree doesn't really work for me so much but it does have that funky weird indie rock feel. I do like the album title though and the band name is pretty indie rock as well.

Red Sun Album Covers

RED SUN is a fictional band (one of many) that I created as practice for album cover art back in 2012. For the most part nothing much came of that idea at the time except these two covers for a vinyl album. As far as I can find one other of the album covers on my computer from a band I called The Black Tree but I don't think it was finished. I have been thinking about creating more of these for fun and as samples in case anyone ever needs an album cover.

This cover is really simple, which is kind of my style. I don't do a lot of what I call "Hyper-Photoshop" work to make something look good. I prefer clean design for the most part an image and words usually works for me.

Behind The Curtain: An Insider's View of Jay Leno's Tonight Show is a book cover that I designed at Pelican Publishing Company in 2014. This book came out today and I brought it to the library and took a few pictures of it on the shelf to give it a natural environment . . . placement near Love and Rockets was completely coincidental . . . yet awesome. I might post the entire dust jacket at some point but for now I thought that these two images wold be good. This book may be the best selling book we have had in some time at work you can order it from this link to Pelican Publishing Company. I do love to seeing my work in print it makes me feel like I did something important.
