Pumpkinhead Man Commission

Pumpkinhead Man was drawn with Sharpie Markers and Copic Markers on Strathmore 300 Series Bristol Board. Drawn in 2014.

This was done as a commission. This drawing was all fun . . . instructions a round headed pumpkin man with a sweater and jeans . . . the person this is for has loved every step I've shown in the process on this one so I'm happy about it. I do love when someone asks me to draw what I draw and not something they have in their head . . . the things in my head come out best I think.

Young Woman Commission

Young Woman - Copyright ©2014 Kevin P. Johnson

Young Woman was drawn with Sharpie Markers, Sakura Pigma Sensei pens, Copic Pens and Copic Markers on Strathmore 300 Series Bristol Board. Drawn in 2014.

This was done as a commission. The drawing was done a little differently than normal I took an old graphic design technique where I blew up a photo and then put it on a light box. Once on the light box I quickly traced over the shapes of the face and basic shape of the body to ensure it would resemble the person it is supposed to be. I then threw out the photo drew in the hair and shirt and arms and little detail lines.

This drawing was rejected by the person who commissioned it and I have to do a new one but since a lot of people liked it I thought that I should post it here anyway since I think it looks good.

Zombie Dave And His Little Dog Too

Zombie Dave And His Little Dog Too - Copyright ©2014 Kevin P. Johnson
Zombie Dave And His Little Dog Too was drawn with Sharpie Markers, Copic Pens and Copic Markers on Strathmore 300 Series Bristol Board. Drawn in 2014.

This was done as a commission based on a photograph. It was fun to do since I know the people that it's for and the girl who commissioned it loves it and wanted her husband and his dog to be zombies.

For some reason the scan washed out a lot of the light grey's I might have to rescan it.

The Rocketeer and Jonny Quest

The Rocketeer and Jonny Quest - Drawing Copyright ©2014 Kevin P. Johnson
The Rocketeer is property of Dave Stevens/Walt Disney Pictures
Jonny Quest is property of Hanna Barbera Productions

The Rocketeer and Jonny Quest was drawn with Sharpie Markers, Sakura Pigma Sensei pens, Copic Pens and Copic Markers on Strathmore 300 Series Bristol Board. Drawn in 2014.

This was done as a commission. I was originally not going to do this in color but after the inking was done I really thought that it needed to be colored so I went with it and I think it came out pretty good. I probably would change a few things but overall I think it works pretty good and the person it's for likes it. I had a lot of trouble with making things look right and so I kind of went with the slightly off look the hardest thing was Jonny Quest's face he looks like an older version and a bit angry but still has that big hair.

Anyway this was fun.

Jason Vorhees New Orleans Saints Fan

I do not own any rights to Jason Vorhees or the New Orleans Saints

Jason Vorhees New Orleans Saints Fan was drawn with Sharpie Markers, Sakura Pigma Sensei pens, Copic Pens and Copic Markers on Canson XL Series. Drawn in 2013.

This was done as a commissioned gift for a friend of my cousin's . . . and she's kinda my friend as well. Anyway she's a big Friday The 13th fan and a big New Orleans Saints fan so this is what I came up with. I think he came out cute and pretty fun . . . the lettering on the banner tells me hand lettering is not my thing but I really like the way this guy came out.

Well I took my Masters of the Universe Man-E-Faces action figure out with me to test out some different things with my camera, different modes and trying to see what different this would do. I took a bunch since he has three different faces but I cut him down to 13 images and one black and white version I created in Adobe Photoshop just to see if I could make the monster version of Man-E-Faces a little creepier. I'm not sure what happened on images 4 & 5 but I really love them. The figure glowing and the background being in focus looks pretty awesome to me. Once again it's pretty fun to take toys out into the world for photographs.

I got my first action figure since I started to collect the Masters of the Universe toys. This guy is called Buzz-Off and he is actually my fifth figure in my collection. I have four others that I will talk about in a later post but this is the first one that I have bought since probably 1983.

This action figure is in pretty great shape but he doesn't have his weapon which makes me still in the hunt for that but he did come with the mini-comic He-Man and the Insect People.

I need to build a light box so I can take nice pictures of my toys.

Kitty Zombie Meets The Living Corpse Coloring Page from DanCon 2011

Kitty Zombie Meets The Living Corpse - Coloring only by Kevin P. Johnson
Kitty Zombie Meets The Living Corpse Alternate Coloring - Coloring only by Kevin P. Johnson

These two coloring pages were done back in 2011 with Copic Markers and Prismacolor Markers. They were a promo for DanCon that I wanted to color. I'm not sure who the artist and inker are but they have signatures on them and I love the image. The first one is a more realistic coloring of the characters with the alternative version being something that I thought would be fun and more cartoonish. I like how these came out and think that they both look good (the killer artwork does help a lot though).I don't know much about the characters but you can find The Living Corpse here and Kitty Zombie here.

The Golden Cape Vs. Matarax

The Golden Cape Vs. Matarax - Copyright ©2014 Kevin P. Johnson

Drawing was done on Strathmore 300 Series Smooth Bristol Board and then colored in Adobe Photoshop.

I am sooooooooooooooooo disappointed at this very moment. I spent about 2 hours coloring this thing and I did not save a high resolution copy of it for the print I was going to make . . . I just cursed a lot if you were wondering.

Anyway this is my character The Golden Cape in a battle with a new monster called Matarax. The Golden Cape appears in Strange City Heroes Comic Books.

Skeletor is property of Mattel
Drawing was done on Strathmore 300 Series Smooth Bristol Board and then colored in Adobe Photoshop.

Well I've been on this Masters of The Universe kick lately and I decided that I'd do a Skeletor drawing in the style I used for my Strange City Heroes comics. Rule #1 all skeletons and zombies must have giant teeth . . . so it is written . . . so it is law.

Today I had to go return a few movies to the library and I thought I'd bring my Mighty Muggs The Thing action figure with me and take a few pictures. Taking pictures of toys in places that they don't naturally belong is pretty fun and leads to what I hope to be interesting images.

Book cover designed with Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop

One Murder Too Many: Whitey Bulger and the Computer Tycoon is a book cover that I designed at Pelican Publishing Company in 2013. This book is the first cover that I designed after I officially became the Art Director at Pelican Publishing Company and a year later I still like it (my photo's are not too good though). I think the photo with the red and my tweeks in photoshop show this guy as a really bad person and this cover looks exactly like I wanted it to look from the start. I didn't have to do much to get this one approved the way I wanted it.

You can order One Murder Too Many from this link by Pelican Publishing Company.

Just being silly with some action figures.

DC Comics Elseworlds Batgirl Thrillkiller (2007)
Kenner Star Wars Rancor Monster (1983)

Got the Rancor from my friend (Teeth painted red when I got it) these two have been on the shelf for months like this I can only assume that it's true love. The flash kind of killed the picture but I still wanted to post this one.

These photos are of my three surviving Hot Wheels cars from the 1970's which happen to also be my three favorite cars of all time.

1977 Hot Wheels Hot Bird
1974 Hot Wheels Mustang Stocker
1977 Hot Wheels ? (not sure what the name of this one is)

Interesting story about the 1974 Mustang Stocker, this was my favorite car as a child . . . it beat all other cars and everyone knew that I loved it. Well one day at my grandmothers house it was either lost or stolen by one of my cousins (we never found out) but it was gone and I cried as if my dog had died. I thought it was lost forever until my Aunt Janie came over one day and she had a brand new one . . . my young life had meaning once again. Eventually that one was lost as well at some point during my childhood and it was never replaced until about 7 years ago I had this urge to find some of the toys from my childhood and I went on eBay and found this one . . . beat up, scuffed and scratched and worth ever cent of the $35 that I paid for it. It lives on a shelf with other toys and junk now but it is my precious.

MOON KNIGHT FREE COMIC BOOK DAY GIVEAWAY

Free Moon Knight Print as a giveaway on FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2014

Moon Knight was drawn with Sakura Pigma Sensei pens, Sharpie Markers, Copic Pens and Copic Markers on Strathmore Smooth Bristol Board. Drawn in 2014.

I made this print of one of my favorite comic book characters Moon Knight as a giveaway on FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2014. I always try to give something to the fans on FCBD that they can't get anywhere else and hopefully they enjoy. This year it was a free print no purchase of anything else necessary. I've included what the actual scan looks like and a photo of what the print looked like.

I still have some of these available and will be giving them away as I can.

MAGIC MINI-CON 2 Poster - Copyright ©2013 Kevin P. Johnson
FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2013 @ BSI COMICS Poster - Copyright ©2013 Kevin P. Johnson
These are a few posters that I did for events that I have attended in the last few years. The BayouCon poster was used as the official cover for all of their materials. The FREE COMIC BOOK DAY poster features a weird green monster and the superhero Dot To Dot from my Strange City Heroes comic books. I thought it was kind of fun to put him in there because not many people know who he is and he's not a major character making him like an inside secret for me and anyone who read my comics.

These posters are $10 each or 3 for $25.00 plus $3.00 shipping and handling, please contact me if you are interested.
