Superhero Snowman

This just kinda turned out to be something it wasn't meant to be. Was drawing a snowman and ended up with this giant elf monster goblin thing behind the mountains.

A friend of mine did a drawing with this guy in it and I thought I'd do one . . . I wanted him to look like a young kidlike version of the character. I think it worked.

Note to self: Sharpie markers bleed into light colored Copic Markers.

A little purple pumpkin . . . or is it a jack o' lantern? This was on the counter at the Wendy's in Gretna and I thought that I needed to take a picture of it . . . only one person in the line commented on me just randomly taking a picture in a line of about twenty people saying "that thing is pretty cool" I said "yeah it is." The End!

Sorry that I haven't posted in a while I've been working on stuff for my other blog www.ahhhmonsters.blogspot.com for my 31 Monsters in 31 Days project. Anyway I was at the Wendy's in Gretna, LA today and although I had posted on Facebook a cell phone version of this about a week ago I wanted to take some with the real camera. I think they came out kinda cool and creepy the black and white version looks a lot better to me than the color.

Snowman with Antlers

This was done while I sat around at Charlie Con hoping someone would come and buy something . . . they didn't but I got this cool guy out of it. I love to draw snowmen that are not really the snowmen that you would expect people to draw. Mine are always alive and will usually have some kind of movement that gives that away even if it's just a slight little gesture. I wanted to add more background to this and I still might but I figured that I needed to post something.

So I did a little show at 2nd & Charles in Covington, LA a few weeks ago and it was pretty terrible I was stuck hidden in a corner wedged between two other artist and almost nobody came up to my table because they couldn't see me or thought I was just part of the other peoples stuff, needless to say I didn't sell anything. The good thing was I got to see some family and friends and that made the day worthwhile. During this whole thing my niece Ella requested . . . demanded . . . a free drawing of a butterfly. So as I was drawing it I said "Should he have boxing gloves on?" she said "yes" as if it were even a question.

The last photo was not purposefully made to have that darkened oval around it, that happend because of the way the extra zoom lens I had on it wasn't focused correctly but I like the effect it caused.

Little Girl Commission

This was done as a commission. The drawing was done with my light box technique (where I use a photograph to get the basic shapes of a persons face in line) but I really threw it out the light box right away and free-handed almost the entire drawing outside of the eyes.This was the commission that I did in replacement of the one of the Young Woman that you can see if you go back about a week on this blog. I think that this one came out okay I would have liked to do the hair differently . . . next time.

So I wanted to try making a drawing video with my phone but didn't know how well it would work. This was a quick test to see how it would go . . . my filming skills need work, ha, ha, ha! I turned off the sound because I was in a public place and the funny thing was as soon as I turned it off the language in the background got loud and really vulgar . . . not that I haven't done that myself but I try to keep my art as friendly to everyone as possible.

Drawing was done on Strathmore 300 Series Smooth Bristol Board, Ink is unknown (probably Sharpie Markers) and Prismacolor Markers

So back in 2011 my cousin asked me to draw a horse for my niece . . . so I thought little girls liked My Little Pony back in the day so a quick serch on the internet I found a pink one did a drawing and up until five minutes before I decided to post this I didn't even know the character had a name "Strawberry Swirl". I made a print of this and a lot of little girls love it . . . and a bunch of weird older guys and I only say weird because they have been quite strange when talking to me. I'm not sure what the male obsession is with this show (which I didn't know a new one existed for about six months after I drew this) but to each his own. I think this came out really good and is cute and fun and little girls and older guys really like it so it's in the win column.

I still have not seen this show.

BUG MAN

This guy was really fun to draw . . . and he's holding mustard and that makes every drawing worth my time. The weird thing is I needed to go back and add some dark brown to his pants and the file will not open in Photoshop anymore but will let me place it in other programs so I can still make a print of this guy. The entire time I was drawing this guy I was thinking about who he was and why he has mustard . . . maybe I'll make a comic book about him so you can find out.

This drawing was all fun . . . instructions a round headed pumpkin man with a sweater and jeans . . . the person this is for has loved every step I've shown in the process on this one so I'm happy about it. I do love when someone asks me to draw what I draw and not something they have in their head . . . the things in my head come out best I think.

Young Woman Commission

Young Woman was drawn with Sharpie Markers, Sakura Pigma Sensei pens, Copic Pens and Copic Markers on Strathmore 300 Series Bristol Board. Drawn in 2014.

This was done as a commission. The drawing was done a little differently than normal I took an old graphic design technique where I blew up a photo and then put it on a light box. Once on the light box I quickly traced over the shapes of the face and basic shape of the body to ensure it would resemble the person it is supposed to be. I then threw out the photo drew in the hair and shirt and arms and little detail lines.

This drawing was rejected by the person who commissioned it and I have to do a new one but since a lot of people liked it I thought that I should post it here anyway since I think it looks good.

This was done as a commission. I was originally not going to do this in color but after the inking was done I really thought that it needed to be colored so I went with it and I think it came out pretty good. I probably would change a few things but overall I think it works pretty good and the person it's for likes it. I had a lot of trouble with making things look right and so I kind of went with the slightly off look the hardest thing was Jonny Quest's face he looks like an older version and a bit angry but still has that big hair.

Anyway this was fun.

Masters of the Universe Man-E-Faces

Well I took my Masters of the Universe Man-E-Faces action figure out with me to test out some different things with my camera, different modes and trying to see what different this would do. I took a bunch since he has three different faces but I cut him down to 13 images and one black and white version I created in Adobe Photoshop just to see if I could make the monster version of Man-E-Faces a little creepier. I'm not sure what happened on images 4 & 5 but I really love them. The figure glowing and the background being in focus looks pretty awesome to me. Once again it's pretty fun to take toys out into the world for photographs.

I got my first action figure since I started to collect the Masters of the Universe toys. This guy is called Buzz-Off and he is actually my fifth figure in my collection. I have four others that I will talk about in a later post but this is the first one that I have bought since probably 1983.

This action figure is in pretty great shape but he doesn't have his weapon which makes me still in the hunt for that but he did come with the mini-comic He-Man and the Insect People.

I need to build a light box so I can take nice pictures of my toys.

These two coloring pages were done back in 2011 with Copic Markers and Prismacolor Markers. They were a promo for DanCon that I wanted to color. I'm not sure who the artist and inker are but they have signatures on them and I love the image. The first one is a more realistic coloring of the characters with the alternative version being something that I thought would be fun and more cartoonish. I like how these came out and think that they both look good (the killer artwork does help a lot though).I don't know much about the characters but you can find The Living Corpse here and Kitty Zombie here.

The Golden Cape Vs. Matarax

I am sooooooooooooooooo disappointed at this very moment. I spent about 2 hours coloring this thing and I did not save a high resolution copy of it for the print I was going to make . . . I just cursed a lot if you were wondering.

Anyway this is my character The Golden Cape in a battle with a new monster called Matarax. The Golden Cape appears in Strange City Heroes Comic Books.

The Thing Takes A Trip To The Library

Today I had to go return a few movies to the library and I thought I'd bring my Mighty Muggs The Thing action figure with me and take a few pictures. Taking pictures of toys in places that they don't naturally belong is pretty fun and leads to what I hope to be interesting images.
